A new report said demand at Quebec food banks is continuing to break records. According to a 2026 hunger count report published by Food Banks of Canada, they are now fulfilling 3.27 million requests every single month. close to 14% of the network's organization said they had to turn people away because they did not have enough food. The report adds that 70% of organizations said they faced a shortage in the last year, and the situation has only been getting worse since the pandemic. Children account for 1/3 of recipients in the food bank. According to stats, one in five who use the food bank are employed. The Court of Quebec has granted the Party Quebecois' request and ordered a judicial recount in two ridings. PQ argued there were irregularities in the Champlain riding of Morissey, in which its candidate lost to the Conservatives by 191 votes. They allege discrepancies between the tally sheets and the number of ballots cast. The PQ also granted a recount in the Vachon riding, where its candidate lost to a Liberal candidate by 10 votes. And the federal government said the courts were second guessing with the benefit of 2020 hindsight when they ruled Ottawa Act legal justification to use the Emergencies Act and shut down COVID protests. Now the government claims the courts are unfairly looking at thousands of pages of organized evidence gathered over several years when they had to make a decision quickly under extreme stress. The top court is set to rule today on whether to grant the government permission to appeal. Light 1067 Sports. The NBA season debuted for the Raptors last night.
